Description
Flippin' FROG XL 4 Month Bundle+: Algae Prevention and Sanitizing for In-Ground and Above-Ground Pools
For in-ground pools and large above-ground pools up to 10,000 gallons, this bundle combines the XL floating sanitizer with 90 days of algae prevention. The XL's minerals and low chlorine keep bacteria in check, while FROG BAM tackles the algae that tends to take hold when summer heats up.
With the pump running, pour BAM around the edge, at least 3 feet from the XL. A single bottle covers any pool one XL is sized for, and four spare XL cartridges are already in the box.
You get the Flippin' FROG XL system, four replacement XL chlorine cartridges (five total, roughly 4 months of sanitizing) and one 24 fl oz bottle of FROG BAM, a copper-based algae preventive. It's made for above-ground and in-ground pools of 5,000–10,000 gallons.
Sanitizing Plus a Separate Algae Defense
The XL kills bacteria with minerals and a low level of chlorine. FROG BAM adds its own layer against algae, the issue low-chlorine pools run into most when summer heats up.
One Bottle Fits Any Single-XL Pool
The BAM label calls for one bottle per 15,000 gallons every 3 months. Every pool a single XL is made for is under that, so one pour at opening covers about the first three months.
Five XL Cartridges for the Summer
One chlorine cartridge comes in the XL and four more are spares. At 3–4 weeks each, that's roughly 4 months before a reorder.
Simple Alongside a Floater
There's no feeder involved. With the pump running, pour BAM around the edge of the pool, at least 3 feet from the XL, and circulate for an hour.

How to Start Flippin' FROG XL and Add FROG BAM
- Check circulation and the filter: The pump and filter should turn the whole pool over 1–2 times a day, usually 8–12 hours of run time. Clean the filter if the gauge is high.
- Balance in order: Alkalinity to 80–120 ppm first, then pH 7.2–7.8, hardness 200–400 ppm and stabilizer 20–80 ppm, one product at a time.
- Shock with chlorine shock only: Before the system goes in, shock with a chlorine shock to clear contaminants and build a residual. The manual flags this start-up step as very important.
- Unwrap and click together: Remove the outer packaging from both cartridges (toss any loose mineral bits from shipping). Line the orange chlorine cartridge up with the tab guides on the green mineral cartridge and push until it clicks.
- Dial in your gallons: Twist the dial on the chlorine cartridge to your setting: 1 for 5,000 gallons up to 5 for 10,000.
- Tether and float: Tie it to the pool side with the enclosed cord, away from the skimmer and return jets.
- Balance, then shock: Set up the pool as above and shock it. Before adding BAM, make sure pH is 7.2–7.8 and free chlorine is no more than 4.0 ppm.
- Pour around the edge: With the pump running, pour the whole bottle of FROG BAM directly into the pool around the perimeter, at least 3 feet from the Flippin' FROG XL.
- Circulate: Keep circulation on for at least 1 hour.
- Wait on other chemicals: Let BAM circulate (filter) for 24 hours before adding anything else.
- Repeat every 90 days: Use another bottle every 3 months during the season and once before winterizing.
Flippin' FROG XL Initial Setting Chart
| Pool Gallons | Setting # |
|---|---|
| 5,000 | 1 |
| 6,000 | 2 |
| 7,500 | 3 |
| 9,000 | 4 |
| 10,000 | 5 |
From the Flippin' FROG XL manual. Round pools: diameter × diameter × water depth (ft) × 5.9. Rectangular pools: length × width × average depth (ft) × 7. Some chlorine is released even at the lowest setting. Retest 24 hours after any change.
FROG BAM Dosage (Label)
| Use | Pools up to 15,000 gal | Pools 15,000–30,000 gal |
|---|---|---|
| Prevention, every 3 months | 1 bottle | 2 bottles |
| Treating existing algae | 2 bottles | 4 bottles |
Any single-XL pool (up to 10,000 gallons) falls in the first column, so one bottle is the preventive dose. A two-XL pool over 15,000 gallons needs two bottles per dose.
Water Balance Targets for Flippin' FROG XL
| Check | Keep It At | If It's Off |
|---|---|---|
| Total alkalinity (test first) | 80–120 ppm | Correct it before touching pH, even if pH drifts further |
| pH | 7.2–7.8 | Use a pH increaser or decreaser |
| Total hardness | 200–400 ppm | Below 200, add calcium hardness increaser |
| Stabilizer (conditioner) | 20–80 ppm | Below 20, add conditioner; above 80, partly drain and refill |
| Total dissolved solids | Below 1,500 ppm | |
| Free chlorine | 0.5–1.0 ppm | Hold this range at all times |
Per the Flippin' FROG XL manual: add one balancer at a time, in small amounts, with the pump running, then wait 8–12 hours before testing or adding the next one. If balancing drags past 2 days, shock and keep a chlorine level while you finish.
Compatibility Notes
Before You Buy
- For above-ground pools 18–21 ft across and in-ground pools of 5,000–10,000 gallons. Not recommended under 5,000 gallons.
- The spare cartridges are orange Flippin' FROG XL cartridges. They don't fit the standard Flippin' FROG.
- For pools only, not hot tubs or swim spas.
- Never add other chemicals through the skimmer or within 3 feet of the XL.
- Don't use FROG BAM with any other copper-based product, such as copper algaecides or copper ionizers.
Which Flippin' FROG XL Product Do I Need?
| Product | What's Inside | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| Flippin' FROG XL System | Green XL mineral + orange XL chlorine cartridge, tether | Start of each season |
| Flippin' FROG XL Chlorine Cartridge, 1 Pack | 1 orange XL chlorine cartridge | One 3–4 week refill |
| Flippin' FROG XL Chlorine Cartridge, 4 Pack | 4 orange XL chlorine cartridges | About 12–16 weeks of refills |
| XL plus 4 Chlorine Cartridges | The XL system plus 4 spare XL cartridges (5 in all) | About 4 months |
| XL plus 4 Cartridges and FROG BAM (this listing) | The XL 4-month bundle plus 1 bottle of FROG BAM | About 4 months plus 90 days of algae prevention |
Everything here is for pools of 5,000–10,000 gallons. The standard Flippin' FROG (2,000–5,000 gallons) uses a smaller half-sphere chlorine cartridge that doesn't fit the XL.
Why Choose the XL 4 Month Bundle+

Frequently Asked Questions
What's in the Flippin' FROG XL 4 Month Bundle+?
Three items: the Flippin' FROG XL system (with its green mineral cartridge, an orange chlorine cartridge and a tether), four more XL chlorine cartridges, and one 24 fl oz bottle of FROG BAM.
Is this the same as the Flippin' FROG XL 4 Month Bundle+ sold elsewhere?
Yes. Other retailers sell this trio as the Flippin' FROG XL 4 Month Bundle+, UPC 722906005186: one XL system, four XL chlorine refills and a bottle of FROG BAM. Our listing contains the same items.
What does FROG BAM do?
FROG BAM is an algae preventive from FROG, rated for 90 days per dose. Its active ingredient, copper triethanolamine complex (10.03%, or 3.03% elemental copper), backs up the XL by keeping algae from getting a foothold.
How is FROG BAM added with the XL floating?
Run the pump and pour the full bottle into the pool around the edge, at least 3 feet away from the XL. Keep it circulating for at least an hour.
Is one bottle of BAM enough for my XL pool?
For prevention, yes. One bottle treats up to 15,000 gallons every 3 months, and a single XL covers at most 10,000. Two-XL pools over 15,000 gallons need two bottles.
When in the season should BAM go in?
Three points in the season: when you open, every 90 days the pool stays open, and right before you winterize. That last dose helps the pool come out of winter cleaner.
Can I pour FROG BAM right after I shock?
Check two readings first: pH must sit between 7.2 and 7.8, and chlorine must have fallen to 4.0 ppm or lower. Once BAM is in, hold off 24 hours on adding other chemicals.
Can FROG BAM be combined with other algaecides?
Avoid any other copper product, including copper algaecides and ionizers. That's a direct instruction in the FROG BAM directions for use.
Will one bottle clear an algae bloom?
Unlikely. Treating existing algae takes two bottles per 15,000 gallons. The XL manual also points to FROG Algae Gone, plus brushing and running circulation 24 hours.
Is there a guarantee on FROG BAM?
Yes. FROG's 90-day algae protection guarantee says that if algae develops within 90 days of a BAM dose, FROG will supply enough BAM to get the pool clean again. Read the full terms on FROG's guarantee page.
Does the Bundle+ cost less than the separate items?
There's no bundle discount. The price equals the XL system plus an XL 4 pack plus one FROG BAM at HotTubPirate.com's regular prices; the convenience is a single order and shipment.
How long does everything in the bundle last?
Sanitizer first: five XL chlorine cartridges, roughly 15–20 weeks, with the green mineral half running the full season. Algae protection: one BAM dose covers 90 days, so pools open longer than three months will need another bottle.
What protective gear does FROG BAM call for?
Wear protective gear. The directions list a NIOSH-approved particulate respirator, waterproof chemical-resistant gloves, a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, socks and shoes. BAM is labeled Warning, so wash your hands when you're done.
What pH should the pool be at for BAM?
Aim for 7.2–7.8 for routine prevention. If you're fighting a severe algae problem, the BAM directions say to drop pH to 7.2 before dosing.
Where can treated pool water be drained?
Only where your town and state permit it. Because the label calls BAM toxic to fish, it prohibits draining treated water into storm drains, gutters, ponds or streams without approval from state and local authorities.
Safety Notes
Handle With Care
- The chlorine cartridge label carries the Danger signal word. It's corrosive: it causes irreversible eye damage and skin burns, may be fatal if absorbed through skin or inhaled, and is harmful if swallowed.
- Strong oxidizer. Moisture, dirt or other pool chemicals can start a reaction that releases heat and hazardous gas. Never use it in a feeder that has held calcium hypochlorite or other unstabilized chlorine.
- Never add chlorine, pH adjusters, shock or algaecide through the skimmer or within 3 feet of the Flippin' FROG XL.
- Don't open or refill a cartridge. Wash with soap and water after handling.
- If it gets in your eyes, hold them open and rinse slowly with water for 15–20 minutes, removing contact lenses after the first 5 minutes, then call a poison control center or doctor.
- Store spares in the original container in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place away from heat, open flame, children and pets. Toxic to fish; shake an empty cartridge over the pool before recycling or discarding it.
- The green XL mineral cartridge label carries the Caution signal word. Discard it after 6 months or one season even if media remains inside, and don't try to dry and reuse it.
- The FROG BAM label carries the Warning signal word. It may be fatal if inhaled and is harmful if swallowed or absorbed through skin. Don't breathe vapor or mist.
- The label calls for long sleeves, long pants, socks, shoes, waterproof chemical-resistant gloves and a NIOSH-approved particulate respirator while handling. Wash your hands afterward.
- Don't use it with any other copper-based product. It's toxic to fish, so never drain treated water to a storm drain, gutter, pond or stream unless local rules allow it.
- Flippin' FROG XL is not a toy and is for sanitizing pools only. Keep it on its tether. If a cartridge ever breaks open in the pool, vacuum out the contents, and never let a partly used chlorine cartridge rest on the floor, where it can bleach the surface.
- Read every label, the Flippin' FROG XL manual and the Safety Data Sheets before use.
