Description
Six SmartChlor Cartridges to Cover a Full FROG Mineral Cycle
Stock up with the FROG @ease In-Line SmartChlor Cartridges 6 Pack: six silver, pre-filled chlorine cartridges for spas with a built-in FROG @ease In-Line holder, such as Caldera Vacanza and FROG cartridge ready Caldera Fantasy Series models. Each cartridge works alongside the blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge to keep free chlorine at a low, steady 0.5–1.0 ppm with no cyanuric acid.
Six cartridges cover about 18–24 weeks of typical use, enough to carry a full 4-month mineral cycle with spares left over. Buy in bulk once and skip the mid-season reorder.
Always used together: pair SmartChlor with the FROG @ease In-Line Mineral Cartridge, the blue cartridge that goes in the top slot and is replaced every 4 months. FROG @ease needs both cartridges to sanitize your water.
Enough SmartChlor for a Full 4-Month Mineral Cycle
The blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge lasts 4 months, and most owners go through four to six SmartChlor cartridges in that time. A 6-pack lines both up: start a fresh mineral cartridge and a fresh 6-pack together, and you are covered until the next mineral change.
Any cartridge left over becomes the first one of your next cycle.
Buy in Bulk and Never Run Out Mid-Season
Running out of chlorine on a busy weekend is an easy way for a FROG spa to drift out of balance. Six SmartChlor cartridges in the cabinet means the next swap is always ready when the test strip shows the cartridge is out.
Fewer orders also means fewer trips to the store and one less thing to track.
Self-Regulating Chlorine at 0.5–1.0 ppm
SmartChlor builds a chlorine reserve that converts to free chlorine as the water needs it. With pH at 7.2–7.6, free chlorine stays at 0.5–1.0 ppm, which is up to 75% less than the 2.0 ppm ANSI minimum for hot tubs, because FROG minerals handle part of the sanitizing.
The result is cleaner, clearer, softer-feeling water with less chlorine smell.
No CYA, No Daily Dosing, Shock Once a Month
SmartChlor adds no cyanuric acid, so you avoid the CYA build-up that dichlor granules cause. Shock with FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock monthly or at each cartridge change, and there is nothing to measure in between.

How to Install a SmartChlor Cartridge From Your 6 Pack
- Balance the water first: Bring Total Alkalinity to 80–120 ppm, then pH to 7.2–7.6, and keep Total Hardness at 150–250 ppm. SmartChlor works best and lasts longest in balanced water.
- Turn the jets off: Never open the In-Line cap while the jets are running. Lift the cap, then push the holder down and turn it 1/8 turn counterclockwise to pull it out.
- Remove the spent cartridge: Drain the water out of the old silver cartridge to confirm it is empty, then discard it in the trash or recycle it where available. Do not refill or reuse it.
- Unwrap and set one new cartridge: Take one cartridge from the pack, remove the shrink wrap, hold the bottom and turn the dial to the setting for your hot tub size (see the chart below). Leave the rest sealed.
- Snap it into the holder: Snap the silver SmartChlor cartridge into the bottom slot marked "Bromine or SmartChlor," lining up the indentation with the raised area on the holder. The blue mineral cartridge stays in the top slot marked "Minerals" at setting #6.
- Lock the holder and replace the cap: Line up the holder arrow with the system arrow, push down past the tabs and turn clockwise until it stops. Tug up gently to confirm it is locked.
- Shock with FROG Maintain: Add one dose of FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock each time you change the SmartChlor cartridge, or once a month.
- Test and track: Test weekly with FROG @ease Test Strips. Replace the cartridge when the top tab is lighter than the SmartChlor Out Indicator on the bottle, and replace the mineral cartridge every 4 months.
SmartChlor Dial Setting Chart

| 301–450 gallons | 3 | 5 |
| 451–600 gallons | 4 | 6 |
Set the dial for your spa's water volume. If the cartridge is not empty and chlorine still runs low, turn the dial up one number. If it seems to dispense too fast, turn it down one number.

Compatibility Notes
Before You Buy
- Made for hot tubs with the built-in FROG @ease In-Line cartridge holder (a cap on the spa's top rim) and for the FROG @ease Filter Basket System. FROG lists these models for the @ease In-Line system: Artesian Elite and Artesian Island (optional on Island Elite and South Seas), Marquis Crown (optional on Elite, Vector and Celebrity), Caldera Vacanza and Hot Spring Hot Spot. Hot Spring Freeflow Collection spas are also FROG cartridge ready.
- Not for FROG @ease Floating System dispensers, @ease+ floating systems or swim spa dispensers, which use different cartridges.
- Must be used with an active FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge. SmartChlor alone will not keep the water sanitized.
- Do not use dichlor shock. It adds cyanuric acid, which reduces SmartChlor's effectiveness. Use FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock.
- Switching from bromine? Drain and refill before starting FROG @ease. Switching from dichlor? You can convert without draining if cyanuric acid is below 80 ppm.
- Other test strips misread the SmartChlor reserve as high total chlorine. Use FROG @ease Test Strips.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this 6 pack fit Caldera spas?
Yes, if your Caldera spa has the built-in FROG @ease In-Line holder. FROG lists Caldera Vacanza models, and Caldera Fantasy Series spas come FROG cartridge ready. Look for the cap on the spa's top rim.
How do I set the SmartChlor dial?
Set each new cartridge for your spa's volume before you install it: settings 1–4 in the In-Line holder or 3–6 in the Filter Basket System, from 200 to 600 gallons. The blue mineral cartridge stays on #6.
Can SmartChlor work without the FROG mineral cartridge?
No. SmartChlor runs at a low chlorine level because FROG minerals do part of the sanitizing. Start a fresh blue mineral cartridge with this 6-pack and replace it every 4 months or at each drain and refill.
What shock should I use with SmartChlor?
FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock, one packet monthly or at each cartridge change. Over a 6-pack that works out to about six doses. Avoid dichlor shock, which adds cyanuric acid.
How long will a 6 pack of SmartChlor cartridges last?
About 18–24 weeks, or roughly 4–6 months, at typical use. Each cartridge lasts about 3–4 weeks in an average 400-gallon hot tub. Heavy use, larger tubs and higher dial settings shorten that, while lighter use can stretch it.
Is a 6 pack enough for one mineral cartridge?
Usually, yes. A blue mineral cartridge lasts 4 months, and most owners use four to six SmartChlor cartridges in that time. Starting a 6-pack with each new mineral cartridge keeps both on the same schedule.
Is it better to buy SmartChlor in bulk?
If you use your hot tub year-round, a larger pack means fewer reorders and no gaps between cartridges. Keep the spares sealed and use them in order.
What if I have cartridges left when the mineral cartridge is due?
Keep them. Replace the blue mineral cartridge on its 4-month date and keep using SmartChlor from the pack. Any leftovers simply start your next mineral cycle.
Why do busy weeks use cartridges faster?
More bathers means more demand on the water. FROG notes that a hot tub over 400 gallons with a heavy bather load may need a higher dial setting, which shortens cartridge life. A 6-pack keeps spares ready for those stretches.
I'm having friends over for a soak. What should I do?
FROG recommends shocking with a non-chlorine shock such as FROG Maintain before and after a party. There is no need to change the SmartChlor dial for a one-time crowd.
How does FROG @ease compare to bromine floaters or chlorine granules?
With bromine floaters or dichlor granules, the sanitizer level spikes when you add it and drops as you use the tub. FROG @ease keeps a steady 0.5–1.0 ppm free chlorine all the time, needs shock only about once a month and adds no cyanuric acid.
Will low chlorine be easier on swimsuits and my spa?
FROG says that with up to 75% less chlorine, swimsuits are less likely to fade and the hot tub sees less wear and tear. Owners also notice less chlorine smell.
Should I lubricate the In-Line holder?
Yes. FROG recommends lubricating the In-Line holder o-ring twice a year with a silicone lubricant. Doing it at a cartridge change is an easy way to remember.
Why don't FROG @ease Test Strips measure free chlorine?
Because SmartChlor keeps free chlorine steady at 0.5–1.0 ppm, so there is nothing to adjust. Instead, the strips show pH, Total Alkalinity, Total Hardness and a SmartChlor Out Indicator that tells you when to open the next cartridge from your 6-pack.
How do I dispose of empty SmartChlor cartridges?
Drain the water out of the cartridge to be sure it is empty, then put it in the trash or offer it for recycling where available. Do not refill or reuse it.
Safety Notes
Handle With Care
- Turn the jets off before opening the In-Line cap. Water can be forced out under pressure.
- SmartChlor is an oxidizer and is corrosive in concentrated form. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing, and do not breathe the dust. Wear gloves and eye protection when handling a damaged cartridge.
- Never mix with other chemicals, especially other chlorine products, bleach, ammonia or alkalis. Keep cartridges dry until use, since contact with water outside the spa can release toxic gas.
- Store unused cartridges sealed in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place below 125°F, away from combustible materials, and out of reach of children and pets.
- Drain spent cartridges before disposal and do not reuse them. Read the full label and the Safety Data Sheet below before use.
