Description
No Grime. No Odor. No Hassle. Spray-and-Wipe Care for Covers, Headrests and Shells
FROG Surface & Cover Cleaner is a ready-to-use 16 oz spray that lifts body oils, scum, film, scale and dirt from hot tub and swim spa covers, headrests, pillows and the surfaces above the waterline. Spray it on, let it work for 10 minutes and wipe it away.
FROG describes it as a low-toxicity, water-based formula that cleans, protects and restores in one step and gets rid of musty odors. It works with every sanitizing system, including FROG @ease.
One Spray for the Cover, Headrests and Shell
Vinyl covers, headrests and pillows pick up the same oils, sunscreen and grime that end up in the water. One bottle handles them all, along with glass, plastic and acrylic surfaces, so you are not juggling a different cleaner for every part of the spa.
The trigger spray puts the cleaner where you need it without a bucket or mixing.
Wipes Away the Scum Line Above the Water
That ring at the waterline comes from lotions, makeup, body oils and other residue that float and stick to the shell. FROG Surface & Cover Cleaner is made to work above the waterline, lifting oils, scum and film so the shell looks clean again.
Lower the water slightly if the ring sits right at the surface, and wipe the cleaner off before refilling so it stays out of the water.
Freshens Musty Covers
Steam, rain and closed-up covers create a damp, musty smell. FROG Surface & Cover Cleaner gets rid of musty odors on the cover surface while it cleans, and FROG says it does it without harsh chemicals.
Air the cover out after cleaning. A smell that keeps coming back from inside the cover can mean the foam core is waterlogged, which a surface cleaner cannot fix.
Works With Every Sanitizer, Including FROG @ease
Like the rest of the FROG maintenance line, Surface & Cover Cleaner is compatible with all sanitizing systems: FROG @ease, FROG Serene, chlorine and bromine. Use it whenever surfaces look dirty, feel grimy or smell musty, and as part of your regular routine.

How to Use FROG Surface & Cover Cleaner
- Clear loose debris: Brush leaves, dirt and snow off the cover first, and remove headrests or pillows if you want to clean them separately.
- Spray the surface: Spray the cleaner directly onto the cover, headrests or any surface above the waterline. For a scum ring, lower the water slightly so the ring sits above it.
- Let it work for 10 minutes: Leave the cleaner on for 10 minutes so it can loosen oils, film and grime.
- Wipe it off: Wipe the surface clean with a wet rag or a FROG Scrub Pad. Keep wiping until no cleaner residue is left.
- Keep it out of the water: Wipe up overspray before you refill or put headrests back. The cleaner is made for surfaces, not for the spa water.
- Air out and close up: Let the cover dry and air out before you close it, and cap the bottle tightly when you are done.
What to Clean and How Often
| Area | What Builds Up | When to Clean |
|---|---|---|
| Vinyl cover (top and underside) | Dirt, pollen, film, musty odors | Whenever it looks dirty or smells musty, and as part of your regular routine |
| Headrests and pillows | Body oils, sunscreen, grime | Whenever they look or feel grimy |
| Shell at the waterline | Scum ring from oils, lotions and makeup | As soon as a ring appears, and at every drain and refill |
| Other hard surfaces above the water | Film, scale, dirt | As needed |

Frequently Asked Questions
What does FROG Surface & Cover Cleaner clean?
Hot tub and swim spa covers, headrests, pillows and surfaces above the waterline. It lifts body oils, scum, film, scale and dirt, and gets rid of musty odors.
Is it safe on a vinyl hot tub cover?
Yes. FROG lists it as safe for most hard surfaces, including vinyl, glass, plastic and acrylic. On a specialty finish, try a small hidden spot first.
How do I get rid of the scum line in my hot tub?
Turn the jets off, lower the water a little if the ring sits at the surface, spray the ring, wait 10 minutes and wipe it off with a wet rag or FROG Scrub Pad. Wipe away all the cleaner before refilling.
How long do I leave it on before wiping?
Ten minutes. That gives it time to loosen oils and grime, so it wipes off without hard scrubbing.
Will it cause foam or affect my water chemistry?
It is made for surfaces, not for the water, so wipe it off fully and keep overspray out of the spa. Foam usually comes from soaps, cosmetics and detergents getting into the water; FROG Defoamer treats that.
Can I use it with FROG @ease, bromine or chlorine?
Yes. FROG Surface & Cover Cleaner is compatible with all sanitizing systems, including FROG @ease SmartChlor, FROG Serene bromine, chlorine and bromine.
Will it get rid of a musty cover smell?
It removes musty odors from the cover surface. Air the cover out after cleaning. If the smell keeps coming back from inside the cover, the foam core may be holding water.
How often should I clean my hot tub cover?
FROG suggests using it whenever surfaces look dirty, feel grimy or smell musty, and regularly as part of routine maintenance. Brush off debris in between.
Can I use it on headrests and pillows?
Yes. FROG made it to keep vinyl covers, surfaces, headrests and pillows clean and shiny. Spray, wait 10 minutes and wipe.
Is it a cover conditioner or UV protectant?
FROG says it cleans, protects and restores in one step. It is not sold as a UV protectant, so if your cover sits in strong sun, ask about a dedicated vinyl protectant for that job.
What is the active ingredient?
According to the Safety Data Sheet, it contains 1–5% quaternary ammonium compounds, a common cleaning ingredient, in a water-based formula.
Do I need gloves?
Gloves are a good idea. The Safety Data Sheet lists it as a skin and eye irritant and recommends gloves and eye protection. Wash your hands after use.
Does it work on swim spa covers?
Yes. FROG lists Surface & Cover Cleaner among its swim spa maintenance products for vinyl covers, surfaces, headrests and pillows.
What should I wipe it off with?
A wet rag or a FROG Scrub Pad. Skip melamine sponges and stiff scouring pads on vinyl covers, which can wear down the finish.
What should I not use to clean a hot tub cover?
Avoid products with petroleum, silicone or citrus, which can degrade or discolor vinyl, and keep household cleaners out of the spa water.
