Description
Two Years of Fresh-Fill Start-Ups for FROG Serene, @ease and Filter Mate
The FROG Jump Start 6 Pack holds six 1.5 oz start-up shock packets. At a drain and refill every four months, that is about two years of start-ups for one hot tub, or a year for two.
Each packet sets the first sanitizer level in fresh water, whether your FROG system runs on SmartChlor chlorine or FROG Serene bromine.
Starts Bromine Hot Tubs Too
FROG Serene uses bromine, yet FROG still starts it with Jump Start. FROG explains that the chlorine does the start-up work and then converts to the new sanitizer once the bromine cartridge takes over.
The FROG Serene label calls for a 1.0 to 2.0 ppm residual at fresh fill, using Jump Start, and specifically says not to use a non-chlorine shock at start-up.
Two Years of Start-Ups in One Order
Six packets cover about two years of fresh fills for a hot tub refilled every four months. That is fewer reorders and a start-up packet ready for every drain.
Fits In-Line Systems as Well as Floaters
FROG @ease In-Line owners on Hot Spring, Caldera, Marquis and Artesian spas start up the same way: fill, balance, add Jump Start, then install the cartridges.
Dissolves Clean With No Residue
The effervescent granules fizz as they sink and dissolve before they reach the floor, so there is no undissolved chlorine sitting on the shell.

How to Use FROG Jump Start
- Fill and balance first: Fill the hot tub with fresh water, start the circulation and adjust total alkalinity and pH before anything else. FROG suggests waiting about 6 hours between balancing adjustments.
- Cut open one packet: With the circulation running and the cover open, snip the top of a single FROG Jump Start packet. There is nothing to measure.
- Pour it into the water: Pour the whole packet slowly onto the water surface. The granules fizz and dissolve as they sink, so they do not settle on the shell.
- Circulate for 15 minutes: Leave the jets or pump running with the cover open while the chlorine mixes through the water.
- Test, then start your FROG system: Confirm a start-up level on a test strip, then add your FROG @ease, FROG Serene or Filter Mate cartridges and set the dial as the manual directs.
Start-Up Sanitizer Level by FROG System
| Your FROG System | Level to Establish at Start-Up | What Comes Next |
|---|---|---|
| FROG @ease Floating, @ease+ or @ease In-Line | 0.5–1.0 ppm free chlorine | SmartChlor holds a low, steady level. Shock with FROG Maintain monthly or at each cartridge change |
| FROG Serene (bromine) | 1.0–2.0 ppm bromine or chlorine | Bromine cartridge takes over. FROG Maintain once a week |
| FROG Filter Mate | Follow the Filter Mate directions | FROG Maintain once a week |
One packet treats up to 600 gallons. Always follow the directions printed on the packet and in your system manual.
Compatibility Notes
Before You Buy
- One packet treats a hot tub up to 600 gallons. FROG's own pages also mention a 500-gallon figure, so follow the directions printed on your packet.
- Made to start up every FROG hot tub system: FROG @ease Floating, @ease+ Floating, @ease In-Line, FROG Serene bromine and Filter Mate.
- Works whether your ongoing sanitizer is chlorine or bromine. FROG notes the chlorine converts to the new sanitizer once it takes over.
- Do not use it in a biguanide (PHMB) hot tub. FROG lists biguanide as the one sanitizer it is not compatible with.
- Jump Start is dichlor, a stabilized chlorine, so it adds a little cyanuric acid. FROG recommends it at fresh fill, not as a monthly shock on FROG @ease.
- For routine shocking after start-up, use FROG Maintain. For a swim spa, look for FROG Kick-It, the larger start-up shock.
Which FROG Shock Do I Need?
| Product | When to Use It | Chlorine? |
|---|---|---|
| FROG Jump Start (this product) | Start-up shock after you fill and balance fresh water | Yes, sets the first chlorine level |
| FROG Maintain | Ongoing maintenance shock between drains | No, non-chlorine |
| FROG Kick-It | Start-up shock for swim spas up to 3,000 gallons | Yes |
How Long Each Pack Lasts
| Pack | Start-Ups Covered | One Hot Tub, Refilled Every 4 Months | Two Hot Tubs |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 packet | 1 fresh fill | About 4 months | One start-up |
| 3 Pack | 3 fresh fills | About 1 year | About 6 months |
| 6 Pack (this listing) | 6 fresh fills | About 2 years | About 1 year |
| 12 Pack | 12 fresh fills | About 4 years | About 2 years |
Estimates assume one packet per drain and refill, with a refill about every 4 months. Refilling more often, or using an occasional packet when balancing runs long, shortens the supply.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will a 6 pack of FROG Jump Start last?
Roughly two years if one hot tub gets a fresh fill every four months, or about one year when two hot tubs share the box.
Can I use FROG Jump Start with FROG Serene bromine?
Yes. FROG's Serene label calls for a 1.0 to 2.0 ppm residual at fresh fill using Jump Start, and says not to use a non-chlorine shock at start-up.
Is FROG Jump Start chlorine or bromine?
Chlorine. It is sodium dichlor. FROG notes it still works in bromine hot tubs because the chlorine converts once the bromine sanitizer takes over.
Does FROG Jump Start contain cyanuric acid?
Dichlor is a stabilized chlorine, so it adds some cyanuric acid. That is why FROG keeps it to start-up use rather than monthly shocking.
Does it work with the FROG @ease In-Line system?
Yes. FROG's In-Line manual follows the same start-up: fill, balance, add Jump Start, then put the cartridges in.
Do I still need FROG Maintain?
Yes. Jump Start covers start-up. After that, FROG recommends FROG Maintain weekly on Serene or Filter Mate and monthly on FROG @ease.
Can I use two packets at once?
One packet is FROG's dose for up to 600 gallons. Do not double up unless your packet directions or a larger tub call for it.
Can I use Jump Start in a hot tub without a FROG system?
It is a registered dichlor start-up shock, so it can start up a standard chlorine or bromine hot tub. FROG designs it to pair with FROG systems.
What does start-up shock do?
It puts a first dose of sanitizer into untreated fill water and oxidizes organic contaminants, so the water is clean before your regular sanitizer takes over.
Was FROG Jump Start discontinued?
No. FROG Jump Start, order code 01-14-6012, is in FROG's 2026 product catalog and still comes in FROG's floating system kits.
How should I store the extra packets?
Keep them sealed in their original packaging, cool and dry at or below 104°F, locked up and away from other chemicals and moisture.
When can we get in after adding it?
In about 15 minutes, per FROG. Test first and soak once the sanitizer reads in the start-up range.
How often should I use FROG Jump Start?
Every time you drain and refill, which for most hot tubs is about three times a year.
Will it react with my other hot tub chemicals?
FROG says it is compatible with all hot tub chemicals except biguanide. Add one product at a time with the circulation running.
Do I need gloves to handle it?
Yes. The Safety Data Sheet calls for goggles and gloves because the dust is toxic if inhaled and can cause serious eye damage.
Safety Notes
Handle With Care
- Danger: toxic if inhaled and causes serious eye damage. Wear chemical splash goggles and gloves when you open and pour the packet.
- Avoid breathing the dust. Open and pour outdoors, low over the water surface, and keep your face away from the packet.
- If in eyes, rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses if easy to do, keep rinsing and get medical help right away. If inhaled, move to fresh air and call a poison center or doctor.
- This is an oxidizer. Add it only to hot tub water and never mix it with other chemicals, especially ammonia, alkalis, other oxidizers or anything combustible.
- Store packets sealed in their original packaging in a cool, dry place at or below 104°F, locked up and away from children and pets.
- Very toxic to aquatic life. Do not dump unused product, and dispose of empty packets as the label directs.
