Everything Your FROG @ease In-Line Spa Needs for the Next 4 Months

The FROG @ease In-Line Cartridges kit pairs 1 blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge with 4 silver SmartChlor Cartridges, a complete replacement set for hot tubs with a built-in FROG @ease In-Line holder, including Marquis Crown, Caldera Vacanza, Hot Spring Hot Spot and Artesian Elite and Island models.

One mineral cartridge lasts 4 months, and most owners use about four SmartChlor cartridges in that time. This 1 + 4 kit covers one full mineral cycle in a single order.

In the Kit
1 Mineral + 4 SmartChlor
Supply
About 4 Months
Spa Size
Up to 600 Gallons
Free Chlorine
0.5–1.0 ppm
Cyanuric Acid
None added

A Complete 4-Month Refill Kit in One Box

Start the cycle with a fresh blue mineral cartridge and the first silver SmartChlor cartridge, then swap in a new SmartChlor about every 3–4 weeks. By the time the fourth SmartChlor is used up, the mineral cartridge is due for its 4-month change too.

One order, one calendar date, and no guessing which cartridge you are out of.

Minerals Plus SmartChlor for Low, Steady Chlorine

FROG minerals do part of the sanitizing work, and SmartChlor's self-regulating chlorine reserve releases free chlorine only as the water needs it. Together they hold free chlorine at 0.5–1.0 ppm, up to 75% less than the 2.0 ppm ANSI minimum for hot tubs, without the spikes and crashes of granular chlorine.

The result is FROG's Fresh Mineral Water: clear, soft-feeling water with less chlorine smell.

Save Time With the 1 + 4 Replacement Set

Buying the mineral and SmartChlor cartridges together keeps both on the same schedule. The kit is priced the same as buying one mineral cartridge and four SmartChlor cartridges separately, with free shipping on online orders and a single box to track.

No Cyanuric Acid Build-Up Between Drains

Dichlor granules add cyanuric acid with every dose, which builds up and leads to cloudy, itchy water and earlier drains. SmartChlor adds no CYA, so your water stays easier to manage between fill-ups.

How to Install Your FROG @ease In-Line Replacement Kit

  1. Balance the water first: Bring Total Alkalinity to 80–120 ppm, then pH to 7.2–7.6, and keep Total Hardness at 150–250 ppm.
  2. Turn the jets off: Never open the In-Line cap while the jets are running. Lift the cap, then push the holder down and turn it 1/8 turn counterclockwise to pull it out.
  3. Remove the old blue cartridge: Pull the spent mineral cartridge from the top slot and throw it in the trash, even if some media appears to be left. Do not reuse it.
  4. Unwrap the new mineral cartridge: Remove the shrink wrap. The blue mineral cartridge stays on setting #6 and needs no adjustment.
  5. Snap it into the top slot: Snap the blue cartridge into the top slot of the holder marked "Minerals." In the FROG @ease Filter Basket System, insert it into one of the openings.
  6. Set and add a SmartChlor cartridge: Unwrap one silver SmartChlor cartridge, turn its dial to the setting for your hot tub size (see the chart below) and snap it into the bottom slot marked "Bromine or SmartChlor." Keep the other three sealed for later swaps.
  7. Lock the holder and replace the cap: Line up the holder arrow with the system arrow, push down past the tabs and turn clockwise until it stops. Tug up gently to confirm it is locked.
  8. Shock and mark the date: Add a dose of FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock, then write the date on your calendar or the cabinet door so you know when the next mineral change is due in 4 months.

Compatibility Notes

Before You Buy

  • Made for hot tubs with the built-in FROG @ease In-Line cartridge holder (a cap on the spa's top rim) and for the FROG @ease Filter Basket System. FROG lists these models for the @ease In-Line system: Artesian Elite and Artesian Island (optional on Island Elite and South Seas), Marquis Crown (optional on Elite, Vector and Celebrity), Caldera Vacanza and Hot Spring Hot Spot. Hot Spring Freeflow Collection and Caldera Fantasy Series spas are also FROG cartridge ready.
  • Not for FROG @ease Floating System dispensers, @ease+ floating systems or swim spa dispensers, which use different cartridges.
  • Works as a pair with the silver FROG @ease In-Line SmartChlor Cartridge. The minerals alone will not keep the water sanitized.
  • Do not use dichlor shock with FROG @ease. Use FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock.
  • Switching from bromine? Drain and refill before starting FROG @ease. Switching from dichlor? You can convert without draining if cyanuric acid is below 80 ppm.
  • Use FROG @ease Test Strips. Other strips misread the SmartChlor reserve as high total chlorine.

Which FROG Cartridge Do I Need?

Cartridge Where It Goes What It Does
FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge (blue) Top slot of the In-Line holder, marked "Minerals," or one opening of the Filter Basket System Required minerals, replace every 4 months or at each drain and refill

Floating SmartChlor Cartridge FROG @ease Floating System dispenser Different cartridge; does not fit the In-Line holder
FROG Serene Bromine Cartridge (green) Same in-line holder style Bromine system; do not mix with SmartChlor water

Which Option Is Right for You?

Mineral cartridges last 4 months or until the next drain and refill. SmartChlor life varies with spa size, dial setting, bather load and filtration.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this kit fit Marquis, Caldera, Hot Spring and Artesian spas?

It fits models with the built-in FROG @ease In-Line holder. FROG lists Marquis Crown, Caldera Vacanza, Hot Spring Hot Spot and Artesian Elite and Island, with the holder optional on some other Marquis and Artesian models. Caldera Fantasy Series and Hot Spring Freeflow spas are FROG cartridge ready.

Is the mineral cartridge set the same as SmartChlor?

No. The blue mineral cartridge is set to #6 once and needs no further adjustment for its whole life. Only the silver SmartChlor cartridges are set by spa size, from 1 to 4 in the In-Line holder.

Is the mineral cartridge enough by itself?

No. Without SmartChlor in the bottom slot the minerals cannot keep up, and without the minerals SmartChlor's low chlorine level is not enough. That is why this kit restocks both at once.

Can I use dichlor shock with FROG minerals?

FROG advises against it. Dichlor leaves cyanuric acid behind, and that build-up makes SmartChlor less effective. Use FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock with each new SmartChlor cartridge or once a month.

What comes in the FROG @ease In-Line 1 + 4 kit?

One blue FROG @ease Mineral Cartridge and four silver FROG @ease In-Line SmartChlor Cartridges, the complete set for one 4-month mineral cycle.

How long does the mineral and SmartChlor kit last?

About 4 months at typical use. The mineral cartridge lasts 4 months or until the next drain and refill, and each SmartChlor cartridge lasts about 3–4 weeks in an average 400-gallon hot tub.

Do I install all five cartridges at once?

No. Start with the blue mineral cartridge plus the first of the four SmartChlor cartridges. The remaining three stay sealed in the box until a FROG @ease Test Strip says the cartridge in the holder is empty, then you open the next one.

What if I use SmartChlor faster than four per mineral cycle?

Larger spas, heavy use and higher dial settings use SmartChlor faster. Add a SmartChlor 3 pack or single cartridge as needed, and keep replacing the mineral cartridge every 4 months.

How many kits do I need for a year?

About three. A year of FROG @ease In-Line typically uses three mineral cartridges and around twelve SmartChlor cartridges, which is what three 1 + 4 kits provide. Heavy use or a larger spa may call for a few extra SmartChlor cartridges.

What if the mineral cartridge is due before the fourth SmartChlor runs out?

Replace the mineral cartridge on its 4-month date anyway and keep using the SmartChlor cartridge until the test strip says it is out. The two cartridges run on separate schedules.

How do I keep track of when to replace each cartridge?

FROG suggests writing the mineral replacement date on your calendar when you install it, and replacing it again at every drain and refill. SmartChlor needs no calendar: swap it when the FROG @ease Test Strip shows a lighter color than the out indicator on the bottle.

How do I start the kit after a drain and refill?

Fill with fresh water and clean or replace the filter. Balance Total Alkalinity, then pH, then Total Hardness. Establish 0.5–1.0 ppm free chlorine, for example with FROG Jump Start at one packet per 600 gallons, heat the water, and then install the cartridges.

What water balance does FROG @ease need?

FROG's In-Line guidelines are pH 7.2–7.6, Total Alkalinity 80–120 ppm, Total Hardness 150–250 ppm, Total Dissolved Solids under 1,500 and cyanuric acid 0–50 ppm. SmartChlor holds its low chlorine level only when the water stays balanced.

Can I store the SmartChlor cartridges next to my other spa chemicals?

Keep them apart. SmartChlor is an oxidizer, so store the sealed cartridges in a cool, dry, ventilated spot below 125°F, away from other pool and spa chemicals and anything combustible. Never mix it with other chlorine products, bleach or ammonia.

How do I get rid of foam in a FROG @ease hot tub?

Balance the water first, then add FROG Maintain non-chlorine shock or a defoamer. To prevent foam, rinse swimsuits well, shower before soaking and keep hair up. If foam keeps coming back and it has been more than 6 months since the last drain, FROG says it is time to drain and refill.

Safety Notes

Handle With Care

  • Turn the jets off before opening the In-Line cap. Water can be forced out under pressure.
  • The mineral media is mostly calcium carbonate with a small amount of silver chloride. It is not classified as hazardous under OSHA, but it may be slightly irritating to eyes. If it gets in your eyes, rinse with water.
  • SmartChlor is an oxidizer and is corrosive in concentrated form. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing, and do not breathe the dust. Keep SmartChlor cartridges dry until use, store them below 125°F, and never mix them with other chemicals, especially bleach, ammonia or other chlorine products.
  • The minerals are very toxic to aquatic life. Do not empty the cartridge into drains, storm drains, ponds or other waterways.
  • Throw spent mineral cartridges in the trash and do not refill or reuse them. Store new cartridges in their original packaging, away from other chemicals and out of reach of children and pets.
  • Read the full label and the Safety Data Sheet below before use.
