Description
Every FROG Balancer for Start-Up in One Box, Plus FROG VIP Support
The FROG Balancing Basics Kit is FROG's start-up kit for hot tubs and swim spas. It includes the five FROG support chemicals for balancing and shocking fresh water: TArget, DropH, JumpH, SooTHe and StoMPS.
Every bottle has the FROG TruDose Cap and a dosage chart on the label, so you read your test strip, find your gallons and pour. The kit also comes with FROG VIP membership, which gives you one-on-one help from FROG's certified water care team.
Everything for a Fresh Fill in One Box
Balancing always comes first after you fill or refill a hot tub, and FROG built this kit around that job. You get a bottle to raise alkalinity, one to lower pH and alkalinity, one to raise pH, one to raise hardness and a non-chlorine shock, so you aren't stuck mid-start-up waiting on a missing bottle.
FROG VIP Help Included
Buyers of this product get direct access to FROG's certified water care experts through a dedicated VIP support line, plus text or chat on the FROG website, for start-up and water balance questions.
That makes start-up easier. You don't have to search forums or decode a chart alone. Read your test strip, then call, text or chat with your readings, and get a straight answer on what to add next. It's handy on fill day, after a drain and refill, or anytime a reading looks off. Help is one call or message away, from the people who make the chemicals in the box.
A Measuring Cap and Chart on Every Bottle
Each bottle's TruDose Cap seals tightly and has cup and tablespoon marks built in. With the dosage chart printed on the label, there's no math and no separate measuring cup to keep track of.
Works With the Sanitizer You Already Use
FROG lists the kit as compatible with all FROG sanitizing systems, and its catalog says the balancers work with any other sanitizer too. It fits FROG @ease, FROG Serene, chlorine and bromine hot tubs alike.

How to Use the FROG Balancing Basics Kit
- Fill and test: Fill the hot tub, start circulation and test the water with a test strip. The kit doesn't include strips.
- Alkalinity first: If total alkalinity is below 80 ppm, add TArget. If it's above 120 ppm, use DropH. Measure from the chart in the TruDose Cap.
- Then pH: When alkalinity is in range, bring pH to 7.2–7.6 with JumpH (raise) or DropH (lower).
- Then hardness: When pH is in range, raise total hardness to 150–250 ppm with SooTHe if your fill water is soft.
- Sanitize, then shock: Start your sanitizer system, then use StoMPS as your weekly oxidizing shock, or monthly with FROG @ease.
FROG Start-Up Order for the Kit
| Step | Test For | FROG Ideal Range | Bottle From the Kit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Total alkalinity | 80–120 ppm | TArget to raise, DropH to lower |
| 2 | pH | 7.2–7.6 | JumpH to raise, DropH to lower |
| 3 | Total hardness | 150–250 ppm | SooTHe to raise (high hardness needs softer fill water) |
| 4 | Sanitizer | Per your system | Any FROG system or your usual sanitizer (not included) |
| 5 | Oxidize | Weekly, or after heavy use | StoMPS non-chlorine shock |
Get each level in range before moving down the list. Retest on the timing in each bottle's own directions, and FROG's start-up guide suggests letting the water circulate about 6 hours before you start the next balancing step.
What Each Bottle Does
| Bottle | What It Does | Size | After Dosing |
|---|---|---|---|
| FROG TArget | Raises total alkalinity | 2 lb | Jets 30 minutes, retest after 2 hours |
| FROG DropH | Lowers pH and total alkalinity | 3 lb | Jets 10–15 minutes, then retest |
| FROG JumpH | Raises pH | 2 lb | Jets 30 minutes, retest after 2 hours |
| FROG SooTHe | Raises total hardness (calcium) | 2 lb | Jets 30 minutes, retest after 2 hours |
| FROG StoMPS | Non-chlorine oxidizing shock | 2 lb | Jets 15 minutes before anyone gets in |
After-dosing steps come from FROG's step-by-step guide for each product. Every bottle is used with the jets on, the cover off and no one in the water.
Kit Dose Quick Reference (from the bottle charts)
| Bottle and Reading | 400 Gallons | 1,000 Gallons |
|---|---|---|
| TArget, alkalinity reads 40 ppm | ½ cup | 1½ cups |
| DropH, pH above 7.6 | 1 Tbsp | 2½ Tbsp |
| JumpH, pH below 7.2 | ½ Tbsp | 1½ Tbsp |
| SooTHe, hardness reads 50 ppm | 1½ cups | 3¾ cups |
| StoMPS, routine shock | ¼ cup | ¾ cup |
Two common sizes from FROG's charts. Each bottle's full chart covers 200 to 2,500 gallons and other readings, so check the label for your exact amount and measure it in the TruDose Cap.
Compatibility Notes
Before You Buy
- Made for hot tubs and swim spas. Every bottle's chart covers 200 to 2,500 gallons.
- Works with FROG @ease, FROG Serene and FROG Filter Mate systems, and with chlorine or bromine hot tubs.
- Balances and oxidizes the water but doesn't sanitize it. You still need a sanitizer system, and test strips aren't included.
- One bottle of each may not finish a large or very soft fill. SooTHe, for example, takes more than one full bottle to raise 1,600 gallons from 0 ppm. Single bottles are sold separately.
Why Choose the FROG Balancing Basics Kit
It turns a hot tub start-up into a checklist: five labeled bottles in the order you'll use them, a measuring cap on each, and FROG VIP experts to call if a reading doesn't make sense. See all FROG and King Technology water care, or compare every hot tub water balancing product at HotTubPirate.com.
Ideal For
- New hot tub owners setting up for the first time
- Drain-and-refill days and seasonal start-ups
- FROG @ease and FROG Serene owners
- Swim spa owners who want measured dosing and expert help
Frequently Asked Questions
What comes in the FROG Balancing Basics Kit?
Five bottles: FROG TArget (2 lb), DropH (3 lb), JumpH (2 lb), SooTHe (2 lb) and StoMPS (2 lb), each with a TruDose Cap, plus FROG VIP membership. The box lists an 11 lb net weight.
Which bottle in the kit do I use first?
TArget or DropH, depending on your alkalinity reading. FROG's order is alkalinity, then pH, then hardness, then sanitizer. StoMPS comes last, as the ongoing shock once the water is balanced and sanitized.
How long does a full start-up with the kit take?
Plan on most of a day. Each balancer has its own retest time, from 10–15 minutes for DropH to 2 hours for JumpH, TArget and SooTHe. FROG's start-up guide also suggests about 6 hours of circulation between balancing steps.
Will the kit work with my sanitizer?
Yes. FROG lists the Balancing Basics Kit as compatible with all FROG sanitizing systems, and its catalog says the balancers also work with other sanitizers. The kit balances and oxidizes; your sanitizer system still does the sanitizing.
What is FROG VIP?
It's the support that comes with this kit. You get direct access to FROG's certified water care experts on a dedicated VIP phone line, or you can text or chat on the FROG website. Have your test strip readings and your hot tub's gallons ready, and they'll walk you through start-up or a tricky balance one-on-one. The VIP contact details are printed on the box.
When should I use the Balancing Basics Kit?
Any time you start with fresh water: a new hot tub, a drain and refill, or opening the tub for the season. FROG says balancing always comes first, before you start your sanitizer.
Will I use every bottle at each start-up?
Probably not all at once. DropH works opposite TArget and JumpH, so you'll only reach for the ones your test strip calls for. The rest stay ready for the next drift in your weekly tests.
How many fills will one kit cover?
It depends on your gallons and your fill water. In a 400-gallon tub, a 50 ppm hardness reading takes 1½ cups of SooTHe. A 1,600-gallon swim spa starting at 0 ppm needs two full bottles, so larger tubs may need extra SooTHe or TArget.
Is StoMPS a sanitizer?
No. StoMPS is a non-chlorine oxidizing shock (MPS). It breaks down sweat, oils and other contaminants so your sanitizer can work better, and it doesn't add chlorine or cyanuric acid.
How often does StoMPS go in the water?
FROG says weekly shocking helps most hot tubs, and with FROG @ease you can cut back to once a month because of its self-regulating chlorine. Shock after heavy use, too.
Is there a wait before soaking after a StoMPS shock?
FROG's guide says to pour StoMPS in with the jets on and no one in the water, then circulate for 15 minutes before getting back in. Leave the cover off while the jets run.
Are test strips packed in the box?
No. The kit includes the five chemicals and FROG VIP, but no strips. Use FROG Test Strips, or FROG @ease Test Strips if you run FROG @ease, to get the readings for each chart.
Can I add two bottles from the kit at the same time?
No. Add one product, run the jets and retest before you move on. Never mix the chemicals together in a cap, a bucket or the water; each bottle has its own TruDose Cap for a reason.
Can I buy single bottles once the kit runs low?
Yes. TArget, DropH, JumpH, SooTHe and StoMPS are each sold separately at HotTubPirate.com, so you only replace what you use.
Is the Balancing Basics Kit sold on Amazon?
No. FROG's 2026 catalog notes that the kit isn't sold on Amazon. FROG sells through hot tub dealers instead, and HotTubPirate.com carries it with free US shipping on online orders.
Safety Notes
Handle With Care
